Over my 5 years at the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre, I held a range of positions.

Prevention Coordinator & Educator

  • Tailored curriculum and delivered Project Respect workshops for youth (age 12-24) using participant-centred models of learning
  • Content of workshops included of gender diversity, sexualized violence, consent, bystander intervention, and intersections of identity
  • Organized and co-facilitated youth social-action meetings as well as regional and national youth conferences and events
  • Contributed to the vision and direction of the Centre as a whole through engagement in staff, policy making, and anti-oppressive practice committee meetings

Trans Inclusion Workshop Facilitator

  • In collaboration with a group of trans and gender variant community members, designed and delivered workshops to local service providers on how to adopt more trans-inclusive policies and practices within their agencies.

Core Training Facilitator

  • Within a steering committee, designed and lead the facilitations of a “Core Training” for all VSAC staff and volunteers that offered a lens for understanding violence through a systemic framework
  • Content centred on understanding how historic and ongoing colonization impact the ways in which we see gender-based violence today, and on how to develop relationships of consensual allyship and support

Prevention Educators’ Alliance Co-Coordinator

  • Coordinated communications and meetings between local prevention educators, and harm-reduction and anti-violence workers to strengthen network of youth service providers in Victoria
  • Organized visioning, needs-identification, skill-sharing, and collective- and self-care events, as well as a two-day Participatory Action Research (PAR) retreat

Safer Spaces Coordinator – University of New Brunswick

  • Developed and facilitated interactive presentations, workshops, and events for groups ranging in size from 3-150 people
  • Through education and awareness-raising, established a welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty of all gender identities and sexual orientations to live, learn, and access needed resources
  • Facilitated conversations around the intersections of sexual orientation and gender identity with other facets of identity such as religion, race, ability, and country of origin

Bystander Intervention Workshop Developer & Facilitator  – University of Victoria

  • Developed and facilitated a workshop for student leaders on how to disrupt (and, ultimately, prevent) “micro-aggressions” – the seemingly small, interpersonal enactments of systemic violence (which, when unchecked, can become the precursors to more escalated forms of sexualized violence)
  • Content included: understanding and dismantling rape culture; power, privilege, and response-ability; safety, comfort, and strategic interventions; and, how to support survivors of assault
